66/22kV Intake Substation - West Gate Tunnel

The West Gate Tunnel provides a second river crossing as an alternative to the West Gate Bridge to ease congestion and eliminate trucks from suburban areas of Melbourne. The Project is in Melbourne, Victoria, completed in 2022.

Overview

PBE Group was appointed as Principal Contractor to CPB John Holland Joint Venture (CPBJH JV) for the construction, testing, commissioning and handover of the Northern Portal 66/22kV Intake Substation for the project. This included from the 66kV connection to the Jemena 66kV network through to the 22kV Switchboard. The Substation was constructed early in the project to provide construction power to the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM’s) for the construction of the tunnel and will provide permanent power to the tunnel on completion. PBE’s ability to complete the Substation on time was an important milestone for the entire project.
